Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals he's had a personal apology from Manchester United owners the Glazers

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he has received a personal apology from the Glazer owners following the botched European Super League plans.

Fans were left furious after United initially became founding members of the Super League, and protests have followed, with Sunday’s clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford being postponed after supporters forced their way into the stadium.

Despite the furore surrounding United’s plans, the club’s co-chairman Avram Glazer refused to apologise to supporters for attempting to join the highly-controversial Super League.

But Solskjaer has since admitted that the Glazer owners have indeed reached out to him and are listening to the fans.

Speaking ahead of United’s Europa League semi-final second leg clash at Roma, Solskjaer revealed: ‘I have been communicating with the owners, they have apologised to me personally.  

‘I know they have started communication with other individuals other than me.

‘It is a difficult position for me to be in this, I have to focus on the football. I have always had a good relationship and they do listen to me. They do listen to the fans and I am sure there will be better communication coming.’  

Avram Glazer has been hiding out in his Palm Beach mansion following the Super League scandal, but having been tracked down by Sky News, he was given the opportunity to ‘apologise’ for his part in the breakaway league and ‘address the United fans’.

However, he refused to comment when asked if United fans were ‘just customers’ to him. 

Then before getting in his car and driving away, the Sky News reporter pressed: ‘This an opportunity for you – an apology perhaps?’. However he again refused to speak out.

Fans desperately want to drive out their American owners and made their feelings known after their protests forced Sunday’s clash with Liverpool to be postponed, with hordes of supporters letting off flares and smoke bombs outside the stadium, before a group stormed their way inside.  

Sportsmail revealed that a drunken fan got inside United’s dressing room amid the protests.

Nine staff, including team doctors, physios, masseurs and kit men, were preparing for the game against Liverpool when around 100 protesters broke into the ground and several made it through the players’ tunnel.

One unruly fan reached the dressing room and shouted at staff, who feared for their safety as stewards tried to restore order outside.

Corner flags and 25 match balls were taken by the supporters, who also threw a flare at the Sky Sports gantry and smashed a television camera. 

Police have since confirmed that, in total, six officers were injured in the ‘violent disorder’, in which flares ‘were let off and bottles and barriers were thrown at police officers and horses.’ 

And Solskjaer has since admitted that although United fans have the right to protest, they must do so in a peaceful manner, before insisting Sunday’s demonstration was ‘one step too far’.

It was a difficult day for us,’ Solskjaer added. ‘Of course we wanted to play and beat Liverpool for the fans, our job has to be on getting good results. But as I have said, we have to listen, we have to hear the fans voice. 

‘It is everyone’s right to protest but it has to be in a civilised manner though. 

‘Unfortunately when you break in, when police officers get injured, scarred for life, that is one step too far. When it gets out of hand like this, it’s a police matter, it’s not about showing your opinions anymore.’
