Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley shoots down LSU rumors after Bedlam loss to Oklahoma State

Bedlam lived up to its name on Saturday night, with No. 7 Oklahoma State beating rival Oklahoma 37-33. After the game, Sooners coach Lincoln Riley shot down rumors that he’ll take the head coaching job at LSU to replace Ed Orgeron.

“Hold up, hold up, hold up. I’m not going to be the next head coach at LSU. Next question,” Riley said when asked about the rumors. Riley’s name has come up in LSU coaching discussions after the school announced its plans in October to part ways with Orgeron at the end of the season.

Mike Gundy and the Cowboys are in a good position after Saturday’s win, which kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive and eliminated the No. 10 Sooners from a shot at the Big 12 championship. Next week, Oklahoma State will face Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game. The eighth-ranked Bears beat Texas Tech 27-24 earlier on Saturday and needed a Sooners loss to reach the title game.

Oklahoma State took a narrow lead with 8:54 remaining when Sooners returner Eric Gray fumbled a punt on Oklahoma’s 5-yard line. The Cowboys recovered the ball, and Jaylen Warren scored on a 1-yard run on third-and-goal. Oklahoma State’s two-point conversion attempt failed, but it didn’t matter in the end.

The Sooners attempted a late game-winning touchdown, but quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked for a loss of 8 yards to Oklahoma’s 32-yard line on fourth-and-10. Williams threw three incomplete passes near the goal line before getting sacked.

Oklahoma State had another impressive touchdown on the night when Brennan Presley scored on a 100-yard kickoff return at the start of the second quarter. Both teams added field goals and Oklahoma scored a touchdown just ahead of the end of the quarter to tie the score, 24-24, at halftime.

Cowboys quarterback Spencer Sanders went 19-of-30 for 214 throwing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Sanders added 15 carries, 91 rushing yards and a score. Williams finished with 252 yards passing and three touchdowns.
