Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams has sixth-best Heisman odds after just 1 start

A Heisman Trophy winner hasn’t missed multiple games since 1943. But after just one start, Oklahoma freshman quarterback Caleb Williams has already entered the conversation.

Williams, who entered Saturday off the board for BetMGM’s Heisman odds, is now 20-1 to win the award after accounting for five touchdowns in a 52-31 win over TCU. Those odds are tied for sixth best among all players.

No Heisman winner has missed multiple games since Angelo Bertelli won it for Notre Dame in 1943. Bertelli missed the final four games of Notre Dame’s season because he left to join the Marines and fight in World War II.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral are now co-favorites to win the award at 2-1. Young, who entered the week as the favorite, passed for 348 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-9 rout of Mississippi State. Corral willed Ole Miss to a 31-26 win over Tennessee, throwing for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and running 30 times for 195 yards.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud (8-1), Texas running back Bijan Robinson (14-1), Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III (14-1) and Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder (20-1) have the next-best odds, along with Williams. Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett, whose 21 touchdown passes are second to Young’s 24 among Power 5 quarterbacks, is 25-1.
