Obama delivers brutal speech mocking Trump for hawking Bibles hours after ex-president insults Detroit: Live

Trump disparages Detroit in speech to city’s business leaders

Former President Barack Obama gave an impassioned speech denouncing Donald Trump’s character and mocking his peddling of branded Bibles and other merchandise during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Thursday evening, the former president appealed to voters on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris by comparing her values to those of Trump, who he accused of being selfish.

“You know he wants you to buy the word of God, Donald Trump edition. Got his name right there next to Matthew and Luke,” Obama joked.

Later on, he accused Trump of being a bully and condemned him for setting a poor example for young people.

Just hours earlier, Trump disparaged the city of Detroit while holding a rally there.

Obama’s speech is his first stop in a swing state blitz to campaign for Harris. Former President Bill Clinton is also expected to campaign for Harris in rural areas of Georgia sometime next week.

Harris is leading Trump by four points in the latest Economist/YouGov poll, 49-45 percent, and appears to have pulled ahead with suburban voters according to a new Reuters/Ipsos survey — though one data analyst says the former president’s odds of winning have inexplicably surged.

Obama bashes Trump for not showing ‘real strength’

Former president Barack Obama set the record straight about what “real strength” is in a leader while criticizing Donald Trump for “bullying” and “putting people down.”

“I’m sorry, gentlemen. I’ve noticed this, especially with some men, who seem to think Trump’s behavior of bullying and putting people down is a sign of strength. I am here to tell you that is not what real strength is. It never has been,” Obama said.

“Real strength is about working hard and carrying a heavy load without complaining. Real strength is about taking responsibility for your actions and telling the truth even when it’s inconvenient.”

“Real strength is about helping people who need it and standing up for those who can’t always stand up for themselves. That is what we should want for our daughters and for our sons and that is what I want to see in a President of the United States of America,” he said.

Harris slams Trump for insulting Detroit

In Las Vegas, Nevada, Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Donald Trump for insulting Detroit while on the campaign trail, saying it was why “he is unfit to be president.”

“I’ve had a good time meeting with the Culinary Union members who of course are part of the backbone of this great city,” Harris told supporters.

“I guess by contrast my opponent Donald Trump yet again has trashed another great American city when he was in Detroit, which is just a further piece of evidence on a very long list of why he is unfit to be President of the United States.”

Earlier in the day, Trump referred to Detroit as a “mess” while at the Detroit Economic Club luncheon.

74 percent of voters think Trump won’t accept election results if he loses: poll

In the survey of 4,025 registered voters, less than half of Trump supporters said they think the Republican nominee would concede the election if he lost to Harris. Only four percent of Harris supporters believe Trump would acknowledge Harris as the winner.

But 95 percent of Harris supporters and 48 percent of Trump supporters agree if Harris loses, she would concede to Trump.

The former president has vehemently claimed he won the 2020 election and that it was “stolen” by Democrats who committed mass voter fraud. Those claims are false and have been proven false by multiple independent investigations.

Kari Lake slammed for refusing to admit 2022 defeat during debate ‘disaster’

Liberal political commentators slammed Arizona’s Kari Lake’s debate performance after the Senate candidate refused to answer a question about whether she lost the state’s 2022 gubernatorial election.

“Utter disaster for Kari Lake in tonight’s debate,” commentator Brian Tyler Cohen wrote on X of the moment.

The progressive New Republic magazine, meanwhile, added that the debate was a “complete disaster” for Lake.

The criticisms stem from a key exchange in the 2024 battleground state on Wednesday night, where the candidates are vying to fill the seat being vacated by the outgoing independent Kyrsten Sinema.

“The idea of intentionally trying to deceive people in their most desperate and vulnerable moments. My question is when did that become okay?” Obama said, referencing Trump’s spread of misinformation about FEMA in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

“I want to ask Republicans out there…. When did that become okay? Why would we go along with that?”

Obama asks Black men to support Harris

Before making a campaign stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Obama stopped at a campaign field office where he scolded Black men for not having enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris.

“My understanding, based on reports I’m getting from campaigns and communities, is that we have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all quarters of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running,” Obama said.

The former president asked how voters, especially Black voters, could question supporting Harris over Donald Trump.

“And you are thinking about sitting out?” Obama asked. “And you’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses, I’ve got a problem with that,” Obama added.

“Because part of it makes me think — and I’m speaking to men directly — part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
