It’s surely no secret that working with children all day, while a very fulfilling and fun job, also has its downsides.

For one, it can probably be pretty tiring and also it likely involves changing a lot of nappies.

And while it’s part and parcel of the position, one Nursery Nurse has claimed that some parents often wrongly assume they love doing it.

A TikTok user who posts under the name @thenursery_nurse, shared a skit on the video-sharing platform, recounting a time a mum picked her baby up from nursery, only to return moments later.

She asked if she’d forgotten something, only to be told how the child had filled her nappy as she was putting her in her car seat, so the mum had brought her back for the Nursery Nurse to change.

The mum reportedly said: “I just strapped her into her car seat and she decided to do a poo.”

“Oh bless her she saved it for Mummy, you are more than welcome to use our nappy changing room. It has all the nappies, and supplies and everything else you need in there,” replied The Nursery Nurse.

But her comment was met with silence, so eventually, she offered to do it for the parent – despite having other children to care for at the nursery.

Once all was cleaned up, the mum added: “I couldn’t do what you do, but obviously I didn’t want to stop you doing the nappy, because you’re a nursery nurse, you must love them.”

More than 845,000 people have since watched the video, with it garnering over 125,000 likes.

In the comments, people were horrified by the mum’s behaviour, but The Nursery Nurse revealed this was a very common assumption with parents.

One person asked: “Sorry but is this real? That’s just confused the hell out of me. Why would a parent expect someone else to change their child?”

To which she replied: “Certainly is… and they do stand next to us and watch.”

Another person wrote: “The audacity and lack of empathy.”

While someone else posted: “The parents are more inconvenient than the children aha.”

And a different user added: “I never minded changing it for the parents but I couldn’t stand when they would just come back in and thrust the baby at me.”
