Novak Djokovic‘s participation has been confirmed for the Mallorca Championships in the lead up to Wimbledon. The world No 1 will play doubles as he gears up for an assault on Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam record.
The grass-court event begins on June 19, less than a week after Djokovic triumphed over Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets to win a second French Open title.
The Serb became the first man in the open era to win all four Grand Slam titles twice after winning a thrilling final on Sunday.
Having won 19 Grand Slam titles so far in his glittering career, he could also surpass the current record of 20 held by Federer and Nadal by the end of the year.
“I never thought it was a mission impossible to reach the grand slams of these guys,” he said after his victory in Paris.
“I mean, I’m not there, but it’s one less. But they are still playing. Obviously, they’re playing great, especially Rafa with his level.

“But, you know, I was in this position in 2016 as well. It ended up in a third-round loss in Wimbledon.
“This year we have only two weeks between the first round of Wimbledon and the finals here which is not ideal because you go from two completely different surfaces, trying to make that transition as smooth as possible, as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Wimbledon begins on June 26 and lasts for two weeks.
The tournament returns after a two-year break after the 2020 Championships were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Djokovic is the defending champion in the men’s singles and will look to win a sixth Wimbledon title.
