Novak Djokovic admits to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal help ahead of Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are three of the greatest to ever play tennis and share a stunning 53 Grand Slams between them.

Serb Djokovic has the least of the three on 15 but admits in the early part of his career it was hard to break into the Federer Nadal rivalry.

“I think there is a lot of benefits for the sport because of it,” he said.

“I obviously have not been so happy to be part of Federer, Nadal era at the beginning of my career. I wasn’t winning much of the major events.”

Djokovic, though, has come into his own since winning his first major back in 2008 – the Australian Open.

Rafa Nadal and Federer have kept going, however, with the former having won his 18th Slam recently at the French Open.

Djokovic added: “It’s a different story right now. I think I’m very grateful to be part of this era. It made me better player.

“I’ve talked about this numerous times, that they complemented my game.

“They made me understand what I need to do in order to surpass and overcome the biggest challenge, and that is to win against these guys in a major event.”

Djokovic believes that the three-headed rivalry he’s been a part of for over a decade has been positive for tennis.

“I think the rivalries we have between three of us, and Andy, of course, has kind of highlighted probably the last 10, 15 years of professional men’s tennis,” the 32-year-old said.

“I see a lot of positives out of it. I think that the sport has benefited a lot because of these rivalries, all of us winning that much.”

Djokovic is looking to win his second consecutive Wimbledon crown while Roger Federer can win his ninth at SW19.

Nadal is aiming for his third grass court major, with his last Wimbledon title coming in 2010 against Thomas Berdych.

Andy Murray will return to doubles action at the All England Club following successful hip surgery earlier this year.
