Novak Djokovic admits he 'could leave tomorrow' in surprise retirement confession

Novak Djokovic feels he has no obligation to continue playing tennis.

But that is not to say the world No 1 will hang up his racket any time soon.

The 16-time Grand Slam winner is chasing down Roger Federer’s records and with Djokovic being six years younger he has a strong chance of going down as the greatest of all time.

However, the Serbian feels there are other factors which could play a part in his calling his career early.

“I have no obligation to play,” Djokovic told French TV programme ‘Do not touch my TV’.

“I could leave tomorrow if I wanted since I am the father of two wonderful children and one is already five years old and starts school and stuff.

“I would like to spend more of my time being more with them.”

However, Djokovic still plans to continue competing on the ATP tour and he takes on Corentin Moutet in his opening match of the Paris Masters tomorrow.

“But I’m happy to keep playing,” he added.

“I’m still motivated and inspired to play this beautiful sport.”

Djokovic pulled out of the US Open with a shoulder injury last month.

But he has since won the Japan Open title and reached the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals so he is certain his recent issues are being him.

He said in a press conference: “I really historically play well indoors, so I’m looking forward to play in Paris. I have played finals here last year.

“I like the conditions.

“Physically I’m feeling well. I haven’t had any left shoulder pain or any major concerns physically in the last three, four weeks basically. So my preparation has been going well.

“And I’m just hoping I can kick off this tournament in best possible way.”
