Norton Museum in West Palm Beach announces shortlist for photography prize

The Rudin Prize nominees: Lina Hashim, Kristin-Lee Moolman, Jess T. Dugan, and David Spero

The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach has announced the nominees for its biennial Rudin Prize for emerging photographers. Each artist on the shortlist was individually selected by a jury member: the London-based David Spero was chosed by Ori Gersht; the South African-born Thailand-based Kristin-Lee Moolman by Cindy Sherman; the St Louis-based Jess T. Duggan by Dawoud Bey; and the Copenhagen-based Lina Hashim by Trine Søndergaard.

“Each of this year’s nominees applies a visual language that explores place, tradition, and identity,” says Tim Wride, the Norton’s photography curator, in a statement. “The range of imagery and conceptual approaches in the nominees’ work offers a perfect way to revitalize the Rudin Prize in our newly re-configured campus.”

Works by each nominated artist will go on show in a group exhibition due to open at the recently expanded Norton Museum on 28 February 2020. The winner of the $20,000 award—to be announced the next day—will be selected by the Norton’s photography committee, and museum staff and trustees.
