Nine takeaways from the Giants’ season-opening loss to the Steelers


Week 1 of the NFL season — particularly after a pandemic-shortened offseason — is prime territory for overreactions.

So it’d be easy for Giants fans to spiral into despair after the team’s 26-16 loss to the Steelers in Monday night’s opener. The backbreaking Daniel Jones turnovers, the inability to run the ball, the defensive breakdowns — they all looked painfully similar to the 2019 Giants.

But some perspective is necessary after the Giants hung tough against one of the nastiest defenses in the league and a balanced offense led by future Hall of Famer quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. It was always going to be a tall task to upset the Steelers for a Giants team with three new starters on the offensive line and an overhauled defense.
