Nike release sneak peek of Serena Williams’ Wimbledon outfit as she eyes Grand Slam glory

Serena Williams will be aiming for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon next month.

The American superstar will be hoping to seal victory in a brand new Nike outfit, that was specifically designed for her.

She’ll be stepping out onto the grass courts of Wimbledon wearing a white dress with sweater-knit textures.

But, the outfit comes with a sparkly new brooch, that’s shaped into the trademark Nike tick, but sealed with 34 Swarovski crystals.

The brooch, which Nike nicknamed ‘the Broosh’, was inspired by past generations, it said.

NikeCourt’s Global Design Director, Abby Swancutt, said: “I also wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn, but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena.”

The brooch is composed of 34 crystals, symbolising her age when she won her most recent Wimbledon title, in 2016.

The world number 12 turns 38 in September, and hasn’t won any event since she won the 2017 Australian Open.

Williams lost the Wimbledon final last year to Angelique Kerber, and the US Open final to Naomi Osaka.

This year, she’s second favourite to win the title, behind French Open champion Ashleigh Barty.

The former world number one will be looking to win her 24th Grand Slam title this summer.

But she’s been warned that she may be running out of time to put her name in the history books.

Three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe said: “As you get older, at least for me, I felt there was more pressure because you realised that your window is closing.

“You don’t know how much longer you are going to be doing it.

“You end up feeling ‘I had better do it now’.”

Wimbledon starts on Monday July 1 this year, with the women’s final scheduled for Saturday July 13.
