Nick Kyrgios question draws interesting seven word response from former No 1 Andy Roddick

Kyrgios is one of the most talented young players on tour and at his best he can go head-to-head with the ‘big three’.

As well as being blessed with talent, the Australian also likes to play up to the crowd by putting on a show not seen in tennis for decades.

He is seemingly always trying to pull off tweeners and under-arm serves which more often than not go down a treat with the spectators.

But along with his skill and showmanship, there has been criticism about Kyrgios’ desire and hunger to strive for more.

While Kyrgios will step up his game against the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, when facing lower ranked players he can often see disinterested.

At Queen’s he was fined $17,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct after throwing his racket out of the court and narrowly missing somebody.

There is also the war of words he often gets involved with towards the match umpires, like he did in his Wimbledon second round match against Nadal earlier this month.

He returned to action this week at the Atlanta Open in the men’s doubles and speaking before the event Roddick was asked what he thought about Kyrgios, specifically his game.

And the American was oddly specific with his response, cutting his answer short.

“I think his game is very good,” he said.

There was certain emphasis on ‘game’ before he handed the microphone back to the interviewer with cackles of laughter from the watching audience.

Roddick was speaking at a press conference ahead of his exhibition match against Robby Ginepri at the ATP 250 tournament.

The two Americans were good friends throughout their careers, facing off 10 times in total.

“We shared a lot of significant moments,” Roddick said before the match.

“We were trying to do things at the same time.

“We were getting to our first pro tournaments together, playing our first slams at the same time.”
