Nick Kyrgios fed up of ‘bad’ Roger Federer question after Laver Cup loss

Nick Kyrgios hailed Roger Federer as the greatest player of all time – then slammed the question about the Swiss star.

Kyrgios took Federer to three sets at the Laver Cup last weekend and even came close to winning the super-tiebreak.

The Australian has a strong record against the best players in the world and feels his recent opponent tops the lot.

“I was playing someone that’s probably the best to ever play the sport,” Kyrgios said of Federer.

“I don’t think it was a lack of shot selection or lack of discipline or lack of power or lack of anything.

“I think the guy I was playing was just pretty good. Don’t you think so? Yeah. It’s a pretty bad question, to be honest.”

Kyrgios almost helped Team World pull off a huge shock by winning the Laver Cup.

But a Federer-inspired Team Europe claimed the trophy for a third year in a row.

“Going toe to toe with the best to do it is pretty special, especially to do it in his home arena,” Kyrgios added.

“But, you know, to go out there again and compete in front of both the McEnroe brothers, my team, going out there and laying it on the line, I thought it was an amazing match.

“But again, obviously I would have loved to have won, but it just wasn’t to be. It was a fun match.

“I am not going to sit here and continually say he’s the best, he’s the best, he’s the best.

“Yeah, he’s good at tennis, yes. He played unbelievable. He was way too good for me. Can we, like, ask a different question?”

Kyrgios teamed up with Jack Sock in the Laver Cup doubles to beat Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, the world No 27 withdrew from the final day’s play due to injury.
