The NFL has released the 2022 schedule, and the excitement for the season ahead has begun. So has betting on the games, as opening Week 1 lines are now available at leading U.S. sportsbooks.

There are 11 road favorites to kick off Week 1 action. You’re forewarned to use responsible gambling when betting on NFL games and especially too many NFL road favorites.

NFL Week 1 Odds

The NFL Draft in Las Vegas drew plenty of interest, but the release of the Week 1 betting lines will have fans and bettors discussing the games for months ahead leading into opening night on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Reality is that there is not a huge rush to bet on NFL Week 1 games. But sportsbooks provide an opportunity to bet the games months in advance and evaluate the match-ups, lines, odds and game totals.

A look at the 2022 NFL Week 1 lines at FanDuel Sportsbook shows a remarkable 11 road favorites in the 16 opening week games. Those road teams will be the more popular bets, but the home underdogs will likely prove to be the profitable sides when it’s time to recap the results. That was the case in Week 1 each of the past two seasons.

Last season, there were seven home underdogs in Week 1, and those teams went 4-3 straight up (SU) and 5-2 against the spread (ATS). That included and outright win by what every expert thought was the worst team in the NFL entering the season, Houston Texans. The previous season Jacksonville was the worst team and the biggest underdog in Week 1, and they too won outright over the Colts.

Last season the New Orleans Saints pounded Green Bay 38-3 as a home underdog with the Packers one of the more popular Week 1 bets. That turned out to be a bad bet, but Green Bay went on to win 13 games and earn the No. 1 playoff seed in the NFC.

There was also two overtime games in Week 1 with the home underdogs winning outright in Cincinnati and Las Vegas.

The rest of the NFL schedule released May 12 includes Sunday Night Football on NBC starting with Tampa Bay at Dallas in Week 1, and Monday Night Football on ESPN with QB Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos returning to Seattle with both the Cowboys and Seahawks home underdogs.

As legal sports betting continues to surge and become more widely available in the U.S., interest in NFL news and pro football betting remains a leader among sports.

You’re encouraged to not get caught up in all the hype or the plethora of people providing picks and betting recommendations claiming to be ‘experts’ or insiders into sports betting. There is an overaction to Week 1 match-ups and lines with the perceived ‘better’ teams based on last year’s records.

There will be plenty interest in Week 1 and discussion of the games over the four months ahead. There will also be plenty of surprises and underdogs winning and providing profits in Week 1. Home underdogs went 5-2 ATS in Week 1 each of the past two seasons.

I’ll be providing more NFL updates, schedule and betting insight including from actual experts and leading online sports books ahead of Week 1 and throughout the 2022 season.

You can bet on it.
