The Washington Commanders pulled off a miraculous win in Week 8 over the Chicago Bears due to a successful last-second hail mary.
But the NFL decided to poke its head in and bring some bad news to one starter. With the league fining Commaners, starting RG Sam Cosmi.

The Commanders drafted Cosmi with the 51st pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. They originally drafted him as a tackle out of the University of Texas but switched him to guard early in his NFL career. He has now developed into a solid guard for the team. Through the team’s first eight games, he has only allowed one sack and two quarterback hits.
The league fined Cosmi $11,817.00 for an act they decided was “Unnecessary Roughness.” The play came during a field goal attempt in the first quarter, where it appears he hit Bears defensive tackle with a low blow after the play. The video evidence is pretty clear that Cosmi performed the low blow. It’s hard to argue against this fine being handed out. Luckily, Cosmi isn’t facing a suspension for an action that the league could have called a punch. So now he and the team will look forward to their Week 9 matchup against their NFC East rivals, the New York Giants.
