News24.com | Woods not in stacked field for next week's PGA Tour return

Tiger Woods is not in the field for next week’s return event on the PGA Tour, the Charles Schwab Challenge, but the top five players in the world are.

World No 11 Woods did not commit to the event at Colonial Country Club by Friday’s 5pm ET deadline, and so will not join Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson in Fort Worth, Texas, next week.

Woods has traditionally opted against playing in the tournament, making his only appearance at Colonial in 1997, but he was widely expected to join the rest of the world’s top players for the PGA Tour’s return to action following a three-month hiatus as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 44-year-old Masters champion last competed on the PGA Tour in mid-February when he struggled to a final-round 77 at the Genesis Invitational after finishing last among the players who made the cut.

The 15-time major champion was struggling with injury at the time, forcing him to miss several tournaments in the following weeks, but he recently revealed he was back to full fitness.

He was last seen in the charity match with Phil Mickelson and Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning on May 24.
