Mamelodi Sundowns first-choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango has welcomed the addition of Ricardo Goss to the Absa Premiership champions.

The talented 26-year-old shotstopper joined Sundowns from Bidvest Wits and will challenge Onyango for the number one jersey at the club next season.

Onyango made his move to the Brazilians from the Clever Boys in 2014 and says the signing of Goss is only a good thing for the club.

Speaking to the Sowetan, the 35-year-old said his new teammate will however need to work hard to make an impact at Sundowns.

He said: “With Goss coming to the club, I think it’s a good signing. Looking at his quality, he’s done well for Wits.

“I believe he’s one of the keepers who have done well in the bubble, he’s conceded a few goals. He’s been fantastic and he’s welcome at Sundowns.”

Off the back of winning the Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup and Premiership title, Onyango added: “Of course we have to support each other, when he [Goss] comes through he has to fight and get to the team because it’s a different environment for him.

“But we are there to help, we were also once new at the club and we had people to help us.”
