How did Lejeune fare at Newcastle?
Lejeune initially started his Newcastle career well, playing an important role as the club finished 10th in the 2016-17 campaign.
The Frenchman then suffered two serious injuries, restricting his first-team involvement at Newcastle over the next two seasons.
After making only six league appearances in 2019-20, Lejeune headed to Alaves on loan last season, where he played 24 times as the club finished 14th in La Liga.
Speaking about the move, Bruce said on Sunday: “It will put a few quid in the coffers.”
What about Carroll?
“He’s out of contract. I had a conversation with Andy. I think he wants to go and play,” Bruce said of Carroll on Sunday, who scored only once in two years after rejoining Newcastle on a free transfer in 2019.
“I wish the lad all the best. I hope it goes well for the rest of his career. He’s certainly been a big help to me in the last couple of years, that’s for sure.”
