New York City Schools Reopen Amid Uptick in Coronavirus Cases

Mayor Bill de Blasio visited New York City schools as they reopened on Tuesday with a plan that has received mixed reviews from parents.

[bells ringing] “It’s stressful, but we’re excited for sure. He’s very excited to be back in school. The teachers have been very good at explaining that this is going to be a different learning environment, and we’ve talked about the rules of social distancing and wearing masks. Teachers have been great. I can’t, I can’t deny that at all. Communicating with the students and the parents about what to expect. I’m just glad to be getting some sort of normalcy, you know, we understand wearing masks and social distancing is very important. But we’d like to get back to normal.” “Today, for me, is a day of sadness. that a plan that didn’t make sense to anyone. Principals and teachers protested and wrote letters all summer long. Parents did the same. There’s no one that this seems to make sense to other than the mayor. It’s not a happy day for New York City that we are putting people at risk.”
