NCAA Men's Regionals: COVID-19 strikes two regionals, Texas and Florida State cruising

Team leader: San Diego State, -11

Individual leader: Youssef Guezzale, San Diego State and Reid Davenport, Vanderbilt, -5

If the cut were today: 2. Vanderbilt; 3. Arkansas; 4. N.C. State; T5. Charlotte, Clemson

The hook: The spring season began with a San Diego State victory – a comeback victory, no less – in the Southwestern Invitational, which the college golf world watched unfold on TV. After he picked up the team trophy, head coach Ryan Donovan revealed the thinking in the Aztecs camp: Why not us?

San Diego State may have reason to ask that question again after moving four spots up the leaderboard at the Golf Club of Tennessee with a second-round 8-under 276, the best score of the day. Now at 11 under, San Diego State (the No. 5 seed at this site) leads by two shots.

What to watch for Wednesday: Another team that made a move on Tuesday? Clemson. With its 5-under 279, the Tigers are now on the red line – tied for fifth with Charlotte. They’ll need another big day to ensure longtime coach Larry Penley, who is retiring at the end of this season, goes out with a trip to Grayhawk.

Leaderboard: Kingston Springs Regional
