NBA Top Shot will make a surprise pack drop as demand surges to a new level


NBA Top Shot is red-hot right now but on Saturday will face its first test of the balance between the artificial scarcity driving its boom and the desire to create more buyer satisfaction.

On Friday, after a 24-hour technical problem delay, the company reported that 220,000-plus people had lined up in a digital queue for a chance at 10,631 “Premium” packs priced at $99 that included six NBA-licensed video highlight cards (or moments). That’s the largest number of people to seek packs since the public beta testing began in October.
