It’s not a well-kept secret that new Minnesota Timberwolves front office head Gersson Rosas is looking to move the bloated contract of Andrew Wiggins.
Given just how much Wiggins has struggled since signing a five-year, $147.7 million extension back in 2017, this is going to be a hard sell.
A new report from Wolves’ insider Darren Wolfson tells us this story. Wolfson is reporting that Minnesota offered up Wiggins to the Brooklyn Nets in a sign-and trade for restricted free agent D’Angelo Russell.
Brooklyn is on the verge of having cap room for two max-contract players. It is considered odds-on favorites to land Kyrie Irving.
There’s absolutely no reason to believe that the Nets would take on Wiggins’ contract, disabling their ability to add a second star with Irving.
As it relates to Minnesota, the team has long coveted Russell. After picking up fellow wing Jarrett Culver in the 2019 NBA Draft, Wiggins also appears to be on the outs.
It just remains to be seen if Minnesota can move his contract.
