One week later, it’s still hard to believe the Bulls landed Billy Donovan as their new head coach. The shock is fresh. The feel-good vibes aren’t going away.
Donovan turned down the chance to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder and instead signed a reported four-year, $24 million deal to try his hand at guiding Chicago back to relevancy. The Bulls are coming off back-to-back 22-win seasons and have missed the playoffs in four of the past five years.
On the surface, the pairing didn’t add up. The prevailing question: Why would Donovan take that job? Charles Barkley quipped only two worse jobs existed in America: the captain of the Titanic and his fitness coach.
