NBA free agency: Paul, Oladipo and others may change cap outlook for many


We are still in the early stages of the 2020-21 season, but taking a broad view of the offseason to come is useful to see where the league is headed and get a sense of what front offices could try to do before then (like bolstering up at the trade deadline).

Last week, I went through the cap space dynamics for all 30 teams. Another part of this picture is the free-agent class. A surprisingly large volume of extensions for veterans and rookie-scale players weakened the 2021 class significantly, which totally changes the dynamics this summer.

Instead of going in full depth at each position, the focus here is on free agents with a substantial chance to get more than the $9.5 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception, as those are the players who shift the cap space landscape the most.
