Thousands of children in pre-K and students with advanced disabilities returned to in-person school in the nation’s largest school district.

“I mean, I think everybody is a little nervous. You know, I have a family at home. But we’re all here because we all love to teach, and we’re doing what we can. So, we have our thermometers. We have our masks. We’re washing our hands, but we know this is really important for the children and the city. So that’s why we’re here.” “You know we did talk about it for a long time. You know, we were thinking should we do all remote or should we do mixed? And you know, after a little bit of time, a lot of you know going back and forth — the pros and cons — we thought it would be best for him to go back to school and socialize with other kids and whatnot. You know, we really appreciate what the teachers are doing and we understand how they’re putting themselves out there.”
