Minnesota star Danielle Hunter to have season-ending neck surgery: Source

Minnesota Vikings star defensive end Danielle Hunter will have surgery on a herniated disk in his neck that will end his 2020 season, a source told The Athletic Thursday, confirming multiple media reports.

Hunter had already missed Vikings’ training camp and the start of the season with the neck injury. He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 9.

The two-time Pro Bowler was part of a defensive tandem that included Yannick Ngakoue, who was traded to the Ravens for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 fifth-round pick earlier on Thursday.

Hunter has been with Minnesota for his entire five-year career, recording 54.5 sacks, 193 solo tackles and six forced fumbles. He also has two touchdowns on four fumble recoveries.

The Vikings are 1-4 on the season. Their next game is on Nov 1., after their bye week, against the Green Bay Packers.

This is a developing story. More coming.
