Mike D'Antoni to meet with Hornets owner Michael Jordan Tuesday to discuss HC job

The Charlotte Hornets may have a new leading candidate for their head-coaching vacancy.

D’Antoni was among a large group of original interviewees in early May. He has served as a head coach for five different NBA teams over his lengthy career, and most recently was an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2020-2021 campaign.

The 71-year-old D’Antoni has captured two Coach of the Year awards and has a 672-527 career record in the regular season and a 54-56 mark in the playoffs.

It was reported in early June that Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson was a front-runner for the gig in Charlotte, but over the weekend, the 55-year-old turned down an offer and decided stay with the recently-crowned champions. The Hornets haven’t made it to the NBA playoffs in six years have not made it out of the first round of the postseason in 20 years.
