Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock put a smile on the face of one lucky young football supporter after handing her over a signed picture of himself.

Warnock, 72, is renowned for his no-nonsense nature on the touchline during games, but it was his generous side that got social media talking on Wednesday night.

His team have been gearing up for another campaign in the Championship in recent weeks, and Middlesbrough’s latest test came against Tavistock AFC in a friendly.

They emerged handsome 7-0 victors, leaving Warnock a very happy man indeed, and his selfless act at full-time capped off the occasion.

‘What a lovely touch,’ the user who shared the lovely footage said. ‘Thank you Neil, my daughter is over the moon.’

Usually known for his no-nonsense coaching style, Warnock's selfless act saw him showering with praise

Perhaps the biggest talking point from the game was the fact that veteran coach Warnock carries around the photos of himself on his person, however.

But quite rightly there has been nothing but praise directed at the former Sheffield United and Cardiff manager, with Yannick Bolasie also lauding his brilliant gesture.

‘What a guy!’ Bolasie, who played under Warnock at Middlesbrough last season, wrote on Twitter. ‘#Gaffer, last of a dying breed.’

The fixture was the club’s third so far of pre-season, and the second of their week-long training camp in the south west.

Reflecting on the emphatic result, Warnock said, via Teesside Live: ‘It was once again very hot but we didn’t do as much this morning.

‘I thought the other night we sometimes looked a bit leggy.

‘But it’s all about getting them fit in pre-season, while we’ve also managed to get a couple of lads a bit of a rest and some other lads minutes.’

Up next for Middlesbrough is Plymouth, with two more games after that before they open their new domestic campaign against Fulham.
