Michigan rolls past Ohio State for first time since 2011, moving into prime Playoff position

Michigan ended a decade of frustration with an emphatic 42-27 win over Ohio State before a delirious crowd at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines, who last beat the Buckeyes 40-34 in 2011, clinched the Big Ten East Division title and put themselves in prime position to earn their first appearance in the College Football Playoff. They will play either Wisconsin or Iowa in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis next weekend.

Michigan powered its way to 297 yards rushing and six touchdowns, led by 169 from Hassan Haskins and 87 from Blake Corum. Quarterback Cade McNamara completed 13 of 19 attempts for 159 yards with one interception. The Wolverines did not allow a sack or a tackle for a loss.

The story of the game, however, was the Michigan defense. Ohio State was limited to a season-low 458 yards and committed five false starts. Michigan’s All-America defensive end Aidan Hutchinson recorded three sacks and established a single-season school record with 13.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Heisman Trophy front-runner heading into the game, threw for 394 yards and two touchdowns.

Ohio State ended its regular season with a 10-2 mark and will miss the Playoff for the first time since 2018.
