Michelle Obama tells Greta Thunberg to 'ignore the doubters' after Trump ridicule

Michelle Obama came to the defense of Greta Thunberg on Friday after President Trump ridiculed the 16-year-old climate activist on Twitter.

“Don’t let anyone dim your light,” the former first lady tweeted to Ms. Thunberg. “Like the girls I’ve met in Vietnam and all over the world, you have so much to offer us all. Ignore the doubters and know that millions of people are cheering you on.”

The show of support came after Mr. Trump called it “ridiculous” that Ms. Thunberg had been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

“So ridiculous,” the president tweeted Thursday morning. “Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”

Mr. Trump’s tweet was widely criticized but the teen activist took it in stride, updating her Twitter bio to read, “A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”

It wasn’t the first time Mr. Trump mocked Ms. Thunberg. In September, after she gave an impassioned speech chastising world leaders at the UN General Assembly for their inaction on climate change, the president tweeted, “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
