Mets’ Jacob deGrom exits start with shoulder soreness after 3 perfect innings

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom exited his Wednesday start after throwing three perfect innings against the Cubs. DeGrom left due to right shoulder soreness, the team announced.

The ace appeared to show discomfort in top of the third inning after throwing a pitch to Chicago’s Eric Sogard. DeGrom was seen heading toward the clubhouse immediately following the third inning and was followed by a team trainer. He did not return in the fourth.

Before leaving, deGrom had retired all nine batters he faced, striking out eight of them, including seven in a row.
