Melania Trump Denounces U.S. Capitol Attack, Reminds Americans ‘We Are One Nation Under God’

On Monday, First Lady Melania Trump issued a statement through the White House addressing the recent violence at the U.S. Capitol. In the statement, she called on Americans to remember that “we are one nation under God”.

According to The Christian Post, Trump expressed how “disappointed and disheartened” she was by last week’s attack and urged the American people to “listen to one another, focus on what unites us, and rise above what divides us.”

Trump also extended her condolences to those who died following the attack: Ashli Babbitt, Benjamin Philips, Kevin Greeson, Roseanne Boyland and Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood. The latter is a U.S. capitol officer who committed suicide on Saturday.

On the other hand, the First Lady rejected negative claims made against her in the wake of the attack, despite not diving into further details.

“I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me — from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda,” Trump argued. “This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain.”

She continued, “Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our nation’s Capitol. Violence is never acceptable.”

Trump then contended that we should never assume something about people based on their race or poitical ideology. She wrote, “I implore people to stop the violence, never make assumptions based on the color of a person’s skin or use differing political ideologies as a basis for aggression and viciousness.”

While Trump commended those who expressed their “passion and enthusiasm” in the election, she warned that the same passion must never be used for violence.

“Our path forward is to come together, find our commonalities, and be the kind and strong people that I know we are,” she continued.

The First Lady also thanked the millions of Americans who supported her and her husband in the past 4 years, describing it as “the honor of my lifetime to serve as your First Lady.”

In closing, Trump asked for “healing, grace, understanding, and peace for our great Nation.”

“Every day let us remember that we are one Nation under God. God bless you all and God bless the United States of America” she concluded.
