Melania Trump booed by Baltimore students

First lady Melania Trump was greeted with a wave of boos before speaking Tuesday at a youth opioid summit in Baltimore.

Mrs. Trump was loudly booed by an audience of mostly middle school and high school students after she was introduced at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and the boos continued as she thanked her host for the “warm” introduction.

The heckling lasted for about one minute and the young crowd remained disruptive while she spoke, CNN reported.

“In my three years covering @FLOTUS at events, that was the worst booing she has received at a public event where she has given solo remarks,” CNN’s Kate Bennet tweeted.

Mrs. Trump remained unfazed by the booing and thanked the students for showing up.

“I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way,” she said.

The first lady was booed again after she concluded her brief remarks, CNN reported.

Tuesday’s event was part of Mrs. Trump’s “Be Best” initiative, which tackles youth issues like cyberbullying and opioid abuse.
