Maximum Security Works At Monmouth, On Track For PA Derby

Maximum Security worked a mile and an eighth at Monmouth Park on Wednesday morning, with trainer Jason Servis saying he will likely ship the Haskell Invitational and Florida Derby winner to Parx for the Sept. 21 Pennsylvania Derby sometime between Sept. 5 and 7.

Servis said Maximum Security “went a mile in 1:53 and and change and was out in a mile and an eighth in 2:04 and change.”

Clockers had the multiple Grade 1 winner going the last half-mile mile in :53:3 before he galloped out another eighth of a mile. Servis said Maximum Security went the opening half-mile in one minute flat.

“He’s doing pretty good,” said Servis. “He’s doing very good now.”

The Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby carries a $1 million purse.

Servis passed on the Travers Stakes at Saratoga last week because he did not feel Maximum Security was where he wanted him to be at that point.

“I’ve had some time and space and I am happy about that,” he said.

Servis said he would ship Maximum Security to Parx late next week with the hope of getting him two breezes over the track. He said Maximum Security would likely head to Parx “Sept. 5, 6 or 7,” adding that he will make the decision early next week.
