Matty Beniers and Brendan Brisson have been named to Team USA’s final men’s hockey roster for the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, sources confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday. The pair of forwards join defensemen Jake Sanderson and Brock Faber, whose accepted invitations to the team were confirmed by Sanderson earlier this week.
Beniers, a first-round (No. 2) pick of the Seattle Kraken in 2021, and Brisson, a first-round selection of the Vegas Golden Knights (No. 29) in 2020, are both forwards at the University of Michigan. Sanderson, 2020 first-round pick (No. 5) of the Ottawa Senators, is a defenseman at the University of North Dakota, and fellow blueliner Faber, a 2020 second-round pick (No. 45) of the L.A. Kings, plays for the University of Minnesota.
Sanderson, Beniers and Faber were set to compete for Team USA at the 2022 world juniors when the tournament was canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
They will play under head coach David Quinn and general manager John Vanbiesbrouck, who were appointed by Team USA at the end of December.
USA Hockey is set to unveil the full roster on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET.
