Maria Sharapova has announced her retirement from tennis after struggling with chronic shoulder problems. Having ended all of 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012 as the No 1 in the world, and been a top five player as recently as 2016, the five-times grand slam champion is leaving the sport ranked no 373.
