Hurricane Sam is expected to strengthen as it moves west across the Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said. This weekend, forecasters said, the storm is likely to develop into a “major” hurricane, classified as Category 3 or higher, with sustained winds above 110 miles an hour. As of Friday, the storm was not an immediate threat to land.
