  • United will prevent Inter Milan or any other club from signing him permanently

Manchester United are set to perform a shock u-turn by giving Alexis Sanchez another chance to prove himself at the club.

Sanchez is currently on loan at Inter Milan and it was initially thought that his chances of salvaging his United career were minimal.

However, as reported by the Daily Star, United want Sanchez to turn matters around and will prevent him from securing a permanent move to Inter or any other club this summer.

The report outlines that Sanchez will travel on United’s pre-season tour as the club will make every effort to integrate him back into the squad.

Sanchez retains the No 7 shirt at United and will have two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford from next summer.

The Chile international’s spell at Inter hasn’t gone to plan so far – he has yet to start a Serie A game, largely owing to injury.

He is now back fit, though, and featured as a substitute in Inter’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari last weekend.

Sanchez joined United in January 2018 in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to Arsenal. The move saw Sanchez earn £500,000-a-week.

The deal didn’t work out for either player, but Sanchez especially struggled and was widely criticised for his performances for United.

Sanchez departed United on loan having scored just five goals in 45 appearances for the club.

Aside from Daniel James and Jesse Lingard (with the latter often used an attacking midfielder), United don’t have many wingers at their disposal, with forwards such as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood often used out wide instead.

It certainly appears that Sanchez’s best days are behind him, but the 31-year-old’s United career may not be over just yet.
