Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brings in designers to give training ground office a Scandinavian makeover

MANCHESTER United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed up a team of designers to give his office a Scandinavian-style makeover.

The Norwegian is believed to have taken inspiration from Swedish store IKEA and the Danish concept of hygge.

Pronounced “hoo-ga”, it means a feeling of cosy contentment from the simple things in life, and involves putting personal touches around the room you are redesigning to make it a sanctuary for the person.

Ole, 46, is revamping the training ground office ahead of his first full season in charge.

As part of the hygge design, it is suggested that changing the lighting to warm orange bulbs and split into multiple lamps to make separate work spaces bathed in light.

It is also suggested that staying static at a desk all day does not fit in with the hygge idea.

Instead there should be several workspaces where the worker can do different tasks throughout the day.

When it comes to the players, new Man Utd boss Ole could apply hygge by making them spend time together to bond as a team off the pitch.

This can include going for beers or coffees as a group and eating meals together during the working day.

Ole could also enforce a food rota or that players take it in turns to bring in homemade cake or soup.

The 46 year-old has asked for neutral woods and a splash of paint to revamp the office, which was last overhauled just two years ago under the reign of Jose Mourinho.

Pictures posted on social media by the Portuguese boss showed his office featured an exercise bike and deep mahogany furniture.

He redecorated the office by hanging his own memorabilia and wards on the walls, and posed with a training top on.

But United cleared out the Special One’s office in less than five minutes after he was sacked last December after a torrid start to their 2018/19 season.

His personal belongings, including pictures on the wall and trophies, were put into boxes before being transported away.

A source said: “Ole has signed a three-year deal and is planning for the future. This season is massive for him as it’s his first opportunity to stamp his authority right across the club from the very start of a season.

“He wants to ensure he’s comfortable as he can be at work so he’s asked for the office to be done more in keeping with his style, which is much more Scandinavian than Jose’s style.”

United bagged four wins so far on their pre-season tour against Perth Glory, Leeds United, Inter Milan and Spurs.
