  • United are confident Ralf Rangnick’s appointment will help land them Haaland
  • Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid are interested in the ace

Manchester United are confident that Ralf Rangnick’s relationship with Erling Haaland will help them sign the striker.

United have been long-term admirers of Haaland, but they face stiff competition from Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

However, Rangnick – who oversaw Haaland’s transfer from Molde to Salzburg two years ago –  could boost the Red Devils’ chances of acquiring the striker, according to The Mirror.

Before joining Dortmund in January 2020, Haaland and his agent Mino Raiola turned down the chance to reunite the player with his former Molde boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

However, previous negotiations between United and Haaland’s representatives collapsed after the Premier League giants refused to meet their demands.

It is understood Dortmund agreed to give Raiola and the player’s father Alf-Inge Haaland a significant share of the 19-year-old player’s future sales value, which the hierarchy at Old Trafford were reticent to sanction.

Since then, Manchester United have made their intentions to sign Haaland clear and they hope the striker will be interested in rekindling his relationship with Rangnick – who was the director of football for Salzburg.

Rangnick will take over as Manchester United’s interim manager once the issues surrounding his work permit are resolved.

He will earn around £10million to manage the Red Devils until the end of the season. Should he guide them to a top four finish and secure a Champions League spot, he will be handed an additional £2m.

Following that, Rangnick will transition into an executive role on a two-year deal – earning him a further £15m.

It is at this point that Manchester United will make a move for the Borussia Dortmund super-star, according to The Mirror.

Rangnick previously convinced Haaland to leave Molde and sign for Salzburg in a deal worth £7.2m. Therefore, he will look to use his negotiating power once again.
