Well, that was an interesting week to have off. For a couple of days it looked like all was well in the City world but after the wave of positivity in light of Pep Guardiola’s contract extension, there was the sudden reminder that not everything would be fixed immediately by clarifying the manager’s future.
There’s still a lot that needs to change but on Saturday’s evidence there is a long way to go. I’m tempted to say there’s not much sign of improvement on the horizon, either. One of the most worrying things for me came before the Tottenham game, when Guardiola was asked about the current state of his team and he defiantly said they’re not too far from the level of last season. But that wasn’t good enough either!
I’m still trying to work out how much can be put down to fatigue but if you have any thoughts on the past week (or even longer) I’d be interested to hear them, and of course I’ll try to answer any questions you may have. Just don’t ask when this team will start playing well again because I’m not sure anybody has the answer to that.
