Manchester United ‘eye ANOTHER big-money raid on Leicester City’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘plots bid’ for England starlet James Maddison

  • Manchester United are reportedly plotting a bid for Leicester’s James Maddison

  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Maddison as the ideal fit for his new look United side
  • Gareth Southgate could include Maddison in the England squad later this week

Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a January move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.

The Red Devils have already picked up one of the Foxes star assets in Harry Maguire, who arrived at Old Trafford for £80million this summer.

And according to The Mirror, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to make another shopping trip to the King Power, this time to recruit 22-year-old Maddison.

The Leicester playmaker has caught the eye since arriving from Norwich for £20m last summer; primarily due to the dearth of creative, English No 10s.

Maddison’s form looks set to earn him a call-up to the England squad this week, as Gareth Southgate prepares for European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.

Southgate was at Bramall Lane on Saturday to watch Maddison during Leicester’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United. For Solskjaer, Maddison fits perfectly into the new identity he is attempting to instill at United; recruiting young, hungry and enthusiastic British talent.

Maguire’s arrival at Old Trafford followed that of highly-coveted right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Wales international Daniel James. The report details that United will make a bid for the Leicester player in January.

Foxes coach Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on Maddison amid talk of an England call-up earlier this week.

He said: ‘If you’re looking at talent, players who are hungry and coachable, he fits into that mould.

‘England have a lot of very talented players. However, he is one that certainly Gareth will see that [work ethic and ability] in his game and how he has a real talent to succeed.

‘Many players say they want to be the best they can be but they are last into training and first away. So what they want to be isn’t matched by putting the effort in. He’s a guy that puts the effort in.

‘Everyone talks about his set pieces but it does not come by accident. Every day he will spend extra time on them, the quality he has on his delivery is sensational. He has confidence as he puts the work in.’
