Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic said he was “terrible” in their 106-81 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5 Sunday, despite playing with a nerve issue in his neck.
Doncic led the Mavericks with 19 points but was 9 of 24 from the field, including 1 of 7 from 3-point range and misses on all five of his free throw attempts. He was questionable with a cervical strain entering Game 4.
“I don’t think that matters right now,” Doncic said of his injury. “We lost by 20. The injuries are part of basketball. I wasn’t 100 percent but I played terrible. We’ve just got to move onto the next game.
“The pain is like neck and nerve down. It felt way better today than yesterday. I just keep doing massages and ice it down and be ready for Wednesday.”
“He’s in pain,” Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. “It appeared to me that he couldn’t turn left, couldn’t look to his left, and that’s difficult for a guy that relies on peripheral vision and basically has played his whole life with his head on a swivel.”
Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points on 11 of 15 shooting to help the Clippers even the series 2-2.
