The two leading professional women’s golf tours in the world are joining forces.
The LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour announced Tuesday a “joint venture partnership” to elevate women’s professional golf higher than it has ever been.
“At its foundation, this joint venture is about creating opportunities for our members to pursue their passion, and their careers as professional athletes,” LET Board Chair Marta Figueras-Dotti said. “In just the 60 days since we began working on this joint venture, we have already seen a dramatic impact on our LET Tour schedule – an impact that will be a positive result for virtually all of our LET Members.”
One main focus of the partnership is to develop a stronger presence for women’s pro golf on the European continent. According to a press release from the LPGA, an “expanded LET schedule” is among the first moves to be made. So look for an increased number of events, up from the current slate of 20.
“We have experienced incredible growth in women’s golf in the U.S., and this is an extraordinary opportunity to accelerate and expand the game in Europe as well,” LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan said. “I’m excited that this is something we will build together, with the LET.”
