Lloyd: Carlos Rodón’s no-hitter exposes weaknesses of Indians lineup

Roberto Pérez didn’t know. He didn’t know it was a perfect game. He didn’t know Carlos Rodón hadn’t allowed a runner all night. Pérez thought it was a no-hitter when he dug into the box in the ninth inning.

He was one of the few batters to make hard contact against Rodón. And then, in the ninth, Rodón made hard contact with Pérez’s shoe while he made no attempt to get out of the way.

“I thought he had a no-hitter going on, but I really didn’t think he had a perfect game,” Pérez said. “I’m not going to try to stand there and get hit, you know? Especially on a night like tonight when it’s cold.”

In 127 years of baseball, a perfect game has never been pitched against the Indians.
