Steven Gerrard is reportedly being lined up to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager at Liverpool following growing concerns from the club’s chiefs over the German’s future.

There is a fear that Klopp, who led Liverpool to their first Premier League title last season, will succeed Joachim Low as boss of the German national team.

The Reds manager is the outstanding candidate for the Germany job in the eyes of the German Football Association (DFB) and they are planning on making their approach soon, according to the Mirror.

Low has had a 15-year reign in charge of the national team, winning the 2014 World Cup – but has more recently endured a tough time following the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the Nations League.

The 61-year-old managed to avoid the sack and looks likely to see out his contract, which will see him take charge at the European championships this summer and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, it is believed that a poor performance in this summers’ tournament could see Low lose his job with Germany and an earlier approach be made for the Liverpool manager.

And a source close to the Mirror revealed that Klopp would find it hard to turn down the offer, no matter how much he is enjoying himself in Merseyside.

Klopp has enjoyed an incredibly successful period with the Reds since taking over in 2015. He led them to a Champions League final back in 2018, and went one better the following season, beating Premier League rivals Tottenham in the final for the club’s sixth European triumph.

He also broke their long-term curse with the Premier League and last season oversaw with first league title win in 30 years.

Hence why the Liverpool chiefs, including principal owner John W. Henry and chairman Tom Werner, are monitoring Gerrard’s progress with Scottish club Rangers.

The Anfield legend is about the win the Scottish Premiership with the Gers, and there is a great belief that he would be able to succeed Klopp in the Liverpool hot seat given his storied history at the club as a player.

Gerrard impressed during his time as an academy coach at Liverpool shortly after his retirement in 2016 and the club are confident that he would not be tempted by any other offer from another Premier League club.
