Limitations of Sixers’ supporting cast on full display in loss to Cavaliers


After one of the Sixers’ more inexplicable regular-season losses in recent memory, a 112-109 overtime defeat to an undermanned, nine-man Cleveland team at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, the finger could be pointed in multiple directions.

There was a lack of respect for their opponent that Ben Simmons alluded to, saying, “The effort wasn’t there, I’d say that’s the main thing.” In a first half that ended with Cleveland taking a nine-point lead to the locker room, the Cavaliers ran the basketball down the Sixers’ throats off missed shots and turnovers with little resistance. Cleveland finished with 17 fast-break points in the first half.

“I just thought we came out flat, zero energy tonight,” Doc Rivers said. “Give them credit, they played so much harder than us. Through the game, I thought we had one quarter with energy, the third quarter.
