Lil Nas X Old Town Road Wins AMA 2019 Award

Lil Nas X took home his first American Music Award for “Old Town Road (Remix).”

The country-rap superstar won for Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop, marking his first-ever accolade for the award show fueled by fan voting. He made sure to thank Billy Ray Cyrus, who’s featured on the song but couldn’t be there — and his father who was in the audience during the show.

“I don’t want to get too deep,” Lil Nas X begins, “but whether you’re 15, 30, 55, whatever, and you feel like your moment has passed … to know that it’s waiting for you. You know?”

In addition to his AMA win, Lil Nas X was recently nominated for six Grammy Awards.

He also won, alongside Billy Ray Cyrus, the 2019 Country Music Association Award for Musical Event of the Year for their work on “Old Town Road (Remix)” — making history as the first hip-hop artist to ever win this award. Lil Nas X is also the first Black, openly gay man to win this country music award.
