LeBron James brought back his legendary “Taco Tuesday” household celebration this week, which was a most welcome diversion amid these unsettling times.
Easily outshining the joy elicited by James’ silly video shared on Tuesday is the news that he used his Taco Tuesday gimmick as the inspiration to feed a lot of people back in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
Through the LeBron James Family Foundation, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar provided meals to 340 I Promise School students and their families on Tuesday. Chicken and beef tacos, rice, beans and tortillas along with all the fixings were provided.
James teamed up with Akron Family Restaurant, an establishment that to no surprise is struggling to survive amid Ohio’s recently instituted stay-at-home order due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
James’ foundation reached out to Akron Family Restaurant co-owner Nick Corpa and asked if he’d be willing to help out with the very special edition of Taco Tuesday.
Corpa was happy to honor the request and began prepping on Monday. Along with restaurant employees, Copra began cooking and putting together the meals early Tuesday morning.
LeBron James Family Foundation volunteers arrived at the restaurant Tuesday afternoon and workers placed the meals in their cars in order to follow social distancing protocol.
Even better? Plans have been made for James’ foundation to deliver more meals next week to families affiliated with his I Promise program and his highly acclaimed I Promise school in Akron.
