Let’s start this column with a few thoughts on LeBron James that have little to do with his mysterious absence. Our John Hollinger has done a great job defending the play-in tournament idea against LeBron’s assessment that “Whoever came up with that shit needs to be fired.” A reasonable person can disagree with the play-in tournament’s existence, and LeBron is obviously entitled to his opinion, but his objection fits a strange, recent pattern: The NBA’s biggest star keeps vocally complaining about his league’s emergency attempts at keeping the lights on.
